Charlton House is a Grade II listed cottage dating from the early 18th century and situated in the medieval market town of Barnard Castle, Teesdale. Located within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the town is named after the magnificent Norman Castle around which it is built.

Charlton House is a delightful, spacious self-catering holiday cottage. Thought to have originally been a weavers cottage, this two bedroomed property is ideally situated just a few minutes walk from the many and varied shops, pubs and restaurants that Barnard Castle has to offer. This ancient market town has the additional advantage of being the 'Gateway to Teesdale', which makes it an excellent base from which to explore the whole of the Northern Dales, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond.

Witin a short walk of Charlton House are the ruined remains of the 12th Century Castle and the dramatic River Tees. Also close to the house lies the large grassy area known as the Demesnes which is an ideal recreation and play area. The famous Bowes Museum; a magnificent building housing a wonderful collection of European paintings, ceramics and furniture, is also only a short stroll away.

Barnard Castle has many circular and short walks to suit all ages and abilities. Additionally, one of the most beautiful stretches of the Pennine Way passes through Teesdale. The Dale has its own long distance route; the ninety mile long Teesdale Way linking with the Pennine Way to form part of a much wider network. The National Cycle Network has routes through Barnard Castle and the Walney to Wear Cycle route passes through the town.
